Latin Name: (Pionites melanocephalus)

Caique Parrot
The Caique Parrot (pronounced ki-eeks) comes from South America, and is a fairly small, extremely colorful parrot with a solid looking body and short, square tail.

They derive their name from their white breast and belly which has a ruffled looked. A ruffled, white dress shirt is called a caique.

Caique Parrot has a social system which is slightly unusual for parrots. They tend to live in a clan of five or ten related families in a single enormous tree. They form long-lasting relationships, positive and negative, with other clan members.
In the wild Caiques live high in the tree tops and eat seeds, berries and fruits.
